About the Breed
Maine Coon cats were first recognized as a breed in Maine and are now its official state cat. They are long-haired, possessing a coat that features three different lengths of hair, sporting large fluffy tails, and bearing tufts on their paws, ears, and faces.
The “average” Maine coon will make a “regular” cat look tiny! Male Maine Coon cats typically weigh between 15 and 25 pounds while female cats typically average 10 to 15 pounds. Their rectangular-built body style also makes them look bigger, with some large males being 40 inches in length including the tail.
While their size may make them look imposing, Maine Coon are warm and sociable and are good companions for children or other animals. They are intelligent, trainable, and often described as “dog-like.” They will offer you hours of enjoyment with their antics. Without question, they want to be part of everything!
Pinnacle Cattery’s Approach
Here at Pinnacle Maine Coon we are selecting our breeding stock with what we feel is the ideal cat in mind. We want a large regal looking cat with the classic breed type that makes the Maine Coon unique. We are looking for large rugged cats but not breeding animals to the detriment of the cats joints by going too far attempting to breed the most extremely heavy animals. We are looking for cats that can live long healthy athletic lives with the beautiful attributes that are the hallmarks of the breed.
Pinnacle Maine Coon is also a cage-free cattery, believing in the socialization of kittens from birth. Kittens are raised in a loving home with lots of interaction to stimulate them positively. All Maine Coons receive expert and routine veterinary care, ensuring they are up to date on all vaccines, microchipped and wormed.
